Burnout culture and the discomfort of greenification

We live in a time when we are not only encouraged, but pushed to be productive, creative, successful – always better than we were yesterday. Philosopher Byung-Chul Han calls this culture of internal pressure a “society of fatigue”. Alongside these pressures, we increasingly feel the pressure to be responsible for the world: to become environmentally conscious, to reduce consumption, to be “better” people. But this additional demand is becoming a new form of pressure and fuels an internal conflict: we may know how to live, but we cannot resist the glamour of consumption and achievement. In this lecture, Silvester will share the ways he has discovered to reconcile eco-thinking with the temptations of the modern human lifestyle.
